The history of the method

CONTROLOGY

Joseph Pilates called his method “Contrology”.

This is a method for strengthening the deep muscles which are responsible for holding your body posture in place. The deep muscles are the core muscles, located between the ribs and the pelvis and all around the spine; and they are the energy centre of the body. 

Pilates is also a discipline that allows you to improve proprioception and body awareness, knowing your own strength and limits, in order to use it better and more efficiently; and at the same time prevent injuries from moving your body parts at the end of your own range of motion.
